What Welders Are Using Right Now

Four-Process Coverage

Switch between MIG, TIG, Stick and Flux-core process tracking in the same session. Log practice beads for any technique you're learning, with process-specific parameter fields tailored to each method.

Parameter Band Discovery

Scatter plot visualization maps your arc voltage against travel speed across all logged attempts. Identify your cleanest parameter bands and see which voltage-speed combinations produce the fewest defects for each material thickness.

Advanced Library Filters

Filter your 12+ logged attempts by base metal, thickness, joint type, welding position, parameter range and defect type. Find exactly which settings worked for Mild steel A36 in 3F position versus Stainless 304 in flat position.

Photo-Backed Practice Log

Attach photos to every bead attempt with integrated camera support. Review visual proof alongside arc voltage, travel speed and defect severity scores to understand exactly what each parameter combination produces.

Severity Tracking System

Rate undercut, porosity and spatter severity on every weld. The app calculates total severity scores and highlights your cleanest attempts first, helping you replicate successful machine settings in future practice.

Baseline Reference Mode

Set baseline welds as reference points before experimenting with parameter changes. Compare new attempts against your established baseline to see exactly how voltage or travel speed adjustments affect weld quality.

How BlackJack Win Solves Practice Documentation

Session-Based Logging Architecture

BlackJack Win organizes welding attempts into practice sessions on the Bench screen. When you start a new session, select your welding process from the four available options, then log each practice bead with its specific machine parameters. The app stores arc voltage, wire feed speed or amperage, travel speed, and gas flow rate for every attempt you document.

Multi-Dimensional Filtering Engine

The Library screen provides seven independent filter categories that work together. Filter by process to see only MIG attempts, then narrow by base metal to compare how Mild steel A36 behaves versus Stainless 304. Add thickness filters to isolate 3.2 mm results, joint type filters for butt welds only, position filters for vertical-up 3F, parameter range filters for low-third voltage settings, and defect filters to find attempts with zero porosity.

Visual Parameter Mapping

The Settings Map screen plots every logged attempt as a data point on a two-axis scatter chart. Arc voltage runs vertically from 5V to 30V, travel speed runs horizontally from 15 ipm to 30 ipm. Dot fill intensity represents total defect severity, letting you visually identify parameter sweet spots where voltage and speed combinations produce the cleanest welds for your selected material and thickness combination.

Practice Workflow & Data Management

Recording New Attempts

  • Open Bench screen and select welding process from MIG, TIG, Stick or Flux-core buttons at top
  • Check the New Attempt box to activate parameter entry fields for current session
  • Use Quicklog for rapid entry of voltage, travel speed, and defect scores without full form
  • Fill base metal selector with options for Mild steel A36, Stainless 304, or Aluminum 6061
  • Choose material thickness from 1.6mm, 3.2mm, 6.4mm or 9.5mm preset options
  • Select joint configuration: Butt, Lap, Tee or Open root depending on practice setup
  • Enter welding position code: 1F flat, 2F horizontal, 3F vertical-up, 4F overhead, or 1G pipe rotation
  • Record numeric arc voltage reading directly from welding machine display
  • Log travel speed in inches per minute or switch to metric millimeters per minute in Settings
  • Rate severity levels for three defect types: undercut, porosity and spatter on scale
  • Attach photo of completed bead using camera button within attempt card interface
  • Save attempt to session history where it appears with total severity score calculated

Analyzing Logged Data

  • Navigate to Library tab to access complete archive of all logged welding attempts
  • Apply process filter to isolate results from one welding method for focused comparison
  • Stack multiple filters simultaneously — for example: MIG process + Mild steel A36 + 3.2mm thickness + 2F position
  • Tap Cleanest First button to sort entire library by ascending severity scores
  • Review attempt cards showing process badge, severity total, material specs and position code
  • Check arc voltage and travel speed ranges displayed on each card with parameter band indicators
  • Switch to Settings Map for visual scatter plot of voltage versus speed across all attempts
  • Zoom and pan chart to examine parameter clusters where your cleanest welds concentrate
  • Read Parameter Bands section below chart showing voltage-speed ranges with lowest average severity
  • Return to individual attempts via edit pencil icon to review photos and update defect ratings
  • Use Settings screen Prune Attempts section to select old sessions for bulk deletion
  • Toggle between Imperial and Metric units to match your welding machine display format

About the Developer Community

BlackJack Win emerged from feedback collected across welding student forums and trade school communities where practice documentation was consistently manual and inconsistent. The app was designed by welders who needed faster ways to correlate machine settings with weld outcomes during intensive practice sessions. Development prioritizes features requested by users actively logging 100+ attempts per month across multiple welding processes.
